Heading to University is one of the most exciting phases of your life, but can also seem a little daunting. The events and activities organised during the welcome programme are designed to help you settle into Life at Leicester. They provide an opportunity to meet new people, to get familiar with your new campus as well as finding out about all the support services available to you.

Fresh Fair 

When? Thursday 28th & Friday 29th September

Where? Inside the big marquee outside the Students’ Union

Our Fresh Fair is so big; it’s spread over two days! The extravaganza takes place in a marquee in the car park, where you can expect to see all of your favourite shops and brands giving out freebies and exclusive discounts. In recent years, we’ve had brands including Nando’s, Spotify, Domino’s, Greggs, Virgin Media and Wagamama all attend our Fair.

Sports and Societies Fair 

When? Wednesday 27th, Thursday 28th and Friday 29th September

Where? In and around the Students’ Union

Joining a sports club or society is a fantastic way of meeting new people with the same interests with you, or a brilliant opportunity to try something completely new. There’s over 220 for you to choose from and you can find out more and sign-up by attending the Sports and Societies Fair across the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of Welcome Week.

Take a look at page 12 for a full list of our current societies. All information about sport at Leicester can be found on pages 16 & 17.

Volunteering Fair 

When? Wednesday 27th September

Where? Inside the Students’ Union (Percy Gee building) 

University is all about trying new things and the Volunteering Fair is the best place to discover new opportunities. Getting involved with volunteering is not only great for gaining skills and experience, but it can also stand out on your CV to employers. Head to the Students’ Union on the 27th September to discover all the volunteering opportunities on offer within the University and local community. Head to page 8 to find out more about the benefits of volunteering.

 Peer Mentoring events

The second week of the welcome programme will include a number of Peer Mentoring events, where you will get to meet with your mentor for the first time. More information will be announced soon, but in the meantime visit peermentoring.su.le.ac.uk.


Fresh Festival 

Your social events for the year launches with Fresh Festival, a two-week extravaganza of events to welcome you to the social side of life at University. Rockstar Promotions run the official Students’ Union nights out and pull out all the stops to bring in the biggest acts to you during Fresh Festival and throughout the year.

Official Fresh Festival wristbands go on sale at midday on Friday 26th August viawww.leicesterunion.com/freshers.

Early Arrivals Week

Designed to welcome all students arriving in Leicester before 25th September 2017, Early Arrivals Week will take place from 18th-22nd September. The University are organising introductory events including campus tours and a welcome dinner and you can get involved with events happening inside the Students’ Union too.
